Intro series - clever folds for artists books - 18.4.25
Friday 18th April
10am - 5pmish
Juju Books, Bridgeton, Glasgow
Books are a versatile medium, and this workshop is aimed at artists, photographers and folk looking to incorporate books into their creative practice.
In this workshop you’ll make two - three handbound books, using professional methods and materials.
Led by a professional bookbinder (me!), you’ll learn the skill of bookbinding, making books by hand to take home with you. There will be an abundance of high quality materials to choose from, and because we’re gathering in my studio you’ll have access to the full range of equipment, materials and tools. You’ll also have the chance to incorporate your own materials into the books.
We’ll learn:
Cresting a drum leaf book from single folds
Creating a concertina hardcover book
Handling tools, materials and adhesives
Hoe to make a flag book
The Drum Leaf structure is a versatile method of binding single folds together, making it perfect for artists and a clever method of binding thicker prints. It creates a sculptural form that lends itself to artists books.
Concertinas are a versatile method of making books, but deceptively complicated. I’ll share my tricks for perfect folds which makes this book a success.
Please let me know at the time of booking if you have any dietary requirements.
Workshops run from 10am - 5pm from my studio in Bridgeton in the East End of Glasgow. Close to train links, with plenty of free on street parking.
Hope to see you there!
Please note that workshop places are limited and only run if a certain number of places are booked. Bookings are non-refundable unless a replacement can be found. Please make sure you can make the date before booking.
