This winter I'm excited to run a new workshop - rebinding a book. You'll bring one book to rebind, and by the end of the day you'll have turned it into something completely unique by creating a whole new binding for it. This can be a favourite novel, your own sketchbook, a collection of poetry, an important biography, a travel book - anything book shaped! Perfect for a unique Christmas gift!

During this one day workshop, we’ll learn how to:
Remove the cover from an existing book
Attach new endpapers, spine linings, ribbon marker and endbands
Measure and cut materials for different sizes of book
Make and design a new cover
Foil block the title of our book
Attach the new cover to our book

as well as lots of tips and tricks of the trade along the way. I'll share my method of measuring and calculating sizes to make covers of different books, so that you can make more at home without heavy equipment.

The cost includes all professional tools and materials, and an abundance of carefully selected bookcloths and hand marbled papers. Everyone will leave with one unique book to take away, and the skills to make more at home.

Suitable for beginners who are good with their hands, as well as those with some experience. This is perfect for booklovers, and those looking to make a special gift for someone this Christmas.

Please note that this isn't a book repair class, so even though we'll be making a new cover for our book, we will be focusing on the design of the binding. You can bring an old book with a cover that is falling off, but the pages must be intact as we won't have time to do any resewing or paper repair. If in doubt just fire me an email with pictures of the book and I'll let you know if it will be suitable :)

We’ll have refreshments to keep us going throughout the day as well as a lunch break. The studio is a short train ride from Glasgow Central, and has free on street parking.
